Zoetemelk was trounced in every department, as Le Blaireau swept up the honours
in The Tour with seven stage wins and overall victory. The Tour of Lombardy
was clinched to ensure that Hinault won the year-long Super Prestige Pernod
Trophy too.
After a
lack of intensive winter training, Hinault "only" figures in the
top ten in some of the Classic races. By the time of the Fleche- Wallone,
he is up to speed and blows Saronni away in the uphill sprint finish to take
the win . . .
